Extension for Nik Mahmud

Sports Commissioner Datuk Nik Mahmud Nik Yusof's contract that expired on Wednesday has been extended for another six months by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Nik Mahmud told Bernama at his office yesterday that the Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek had personally informed him of the extension. "My contract was extended to resolve a number of outstanding issues involving sports associations," he said.

Nik Mahmud who replaced Tan Sri Elyas Omar on April 14, 2008 said the most complex issue was the Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) which is expected to be fully resolved by June after TM's first general assembly.

He added that another difficult issue was the Malaysian Professional Golfers Association (MPGA).

"A pro-tem committee has been formed to settle the MPGA issue and the problem is expected to be solved soon," he said. The taekwondo and MPGA issue had been going on since 2005 and 2006 respectively.

  1. I think this is the best news that I have heard for Sports in Malaysia. I have dealt with Datuk Nik before and I know personally that he is a man of action. I do not agree with his views sometimes but if you were to see his point of views you cannot fault him. Look at Taekawndo and how he handles it, yes Tunku Imran may be the man who had Kukiwon or WTF to drop MTA and recognised this new body TM(WTF). What does this boils down to? It means that once the International Federation recognises this new body and drop MTA. MTA goose is already cooked! The Sports Development Act is not infringed.
Look at OCM and their mediation body with the troble maker Sec Gen? What did he do? He screwed up both sides and made both side angrier with no solutions at all in hand.
Look at Datuk Nik, he knows he cannot please everybody, but to his mind an open Taekwando Malaysia will do good for the Games for Malaysia. He does care about those instructors but this time in TM all can make a living and not just the monopoly of certain Grand Masters. The Taekwando chaps who are fighting are all off shoots of MTA, so we are dealing with the same gang. So MTA is going to boycott TM(WTA). They do that they are going to be just anotrher MASS Sport and they can kiss good bye to SEA Games and what not.
Hello! Sec Gen of OCM learn a thing or two from Datuk Nik and please be a little compassionate over the athletes and not to those cronies of yours who buys you expensive lunches and dinners. Don't prostitute the OCM letter head by endorsing things that are illegals. You are no longer Emperor and people will highlight your misdeed in such forums.
To Datuk Nik and your team in SC, I say Syabas. I personally feel that your contract should be extended for another year rather than 6 months.
