There will not be a Langkawi leg during this years Le Tour de Langkawi. However it is expected to make a comeback to the island next year, after a two-year hiatus.
LTdL chief operating officer Datuk Mohamed Salleh said Langkawi would be ready to be part of the circuit next year. Langkawi could not revive the circuit this year due to teething problems," he told reporters Thursday.
Recently, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad remarked that he was deeply saddened as Langkawi was not featured in LTdL over the past few years.
Dr Mahathir said the resort island should feature LTdL as the objective of having the race was to promote Langkawi to the world as Le Tour de Langkawi in French meant 'Touring Langkawi'.
Langkawi was last featured in LTdL in 2007 while the LTdL 2010 from March 1 to 7 will start in Kota Baharu and will pass through Kemaman and Pekan before ending in Kuala Lumpur.
So, for now, we will be Touring Langkawi without going to Langkawi. And, the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) is not worried about it because this years edition is being run by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
