The Melaka organizers of the Sukan Malaysia XIII are ready to receive up to 10,810 athletes for the biennial games which will be held on 10-19 June 2010.
Radzi Shaari, the chief executive officer of Sukan Malaysia 2010, said that with the Melaka edition set to be the biggest ever organized, all preparations are geared towards the maximum possible.
“There are 33 sports which will be competed in Melaka as such we have made preparations to accommodate up to 10,810 athletes - in case all the contingents take part in all the sports and also in all the events,” explained Radzi.
“All of our facilities are well on the way to getting prepared for the games and these include those premises which are not directly under our control.
“We have received the participant list from almost all the contingents and up to now, there are already more than 6,000 athletes registered not inclusive of the more than 2,000 officials.”
Radzi said that the Melaka organizers have picked up from the lessons in Terengganu two years ago to make sure that the shortcomings will not see a repeat this time round.
He said that every possible measure in terms of technical aspects, security, transportations and meals preparation have all been taken into consideration.
“We are preparing as well as we can but we do not expect it to be perfect but we will try hard to come close,” he added.
“And so as to avoid any controversies, we have also decided to appoint the Chief National Technical Delegates for all sports from outside the state of Melaka. This will ensure fairness in all the decision making in as far as the technical aspect of the games is concerned.”
