The Slovakian Division One League has emerged as the answer to the quandary which has been facing the Harimau Muda 'A' team for the last several weeks.
The Malaysian Under-21 squad was faced with non-action for the 2010 season when the FA of Malaysia (FAM) decided not to allow them to play in the M-League but instead look to playing abroad for the exposure - in this case, the S-League.
But following the decision by the FA of Singapore in turning down Harimau Muda A’s application, the team was faced with an uncertain future - until the agreement from the FA of Slovakia.
Harimau Muda 'A' have been confirmed to play 14 competitive matches in the Slovakian Division One - a rung lower than the Slovakian Super League.
The team will be expected to be in Slovakia from February to May 2010 in the city of Vion.
“We have received the agreement from the Slovakian FA to accept our youth side for that duration,“ said Datuk Seri Redzuan Tan Sri Sheikh Ahmad, the deputy president of the FAM.
“Apart from the S-League, there were two or three other competitions which were part of our planning. We were in discussion with them and as far as the costs of their stay there is concerned, we do not have any problem in meeting those requirements.
“All these to ensure that Harimau Muda stay competitive until December before we make our decision to put them in the local league.“
Other than matches in the Slovakian League, the Harimua Muda 'A' squad will also be playing in three international matches during their sojourn in Vion.
“After their stint in May, we have also received invitations from US Football to take part in the Obama Cup in Michigan and then to be followed by the Newspaper Cup in Vietnam in October,” he added.
